Beach Awarded Gary Wiggins Memorial Scholarship

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (February 2, 2006) – Chris Beach of Leonard was awarded the Gary Wiggins Memorial Scholarship from Missouri Farmers Union. Beach is the son of Harold and Jan Beach, and currently attends University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in Agriculture Systems Management.

The $500 scholarship is presented annually to a young person attending a 2 or 4 year college with plans to enter production agriculture and serve Missouri rural communities. The scholarship was presented at the Jan. 27 Missouri Farmers Union convention banquet in memory of Gary Wiggins, a former legislator and rural advocate.

“Gary Wiggins was a visionary, a leader and person deeply committed to the improvement of Missouri rural communities and family farms,” said MFU President, Russ Kremer. “We will be looking to the recipient of this scholarship to provide leadership in his community, production agriculture and to Missouri Farmers Union.”

Missouri Farmers Union’s mission is to protect and enhance the economic interests and way of life of family farmers and ranchers and the rural communities they represent. For more information or to join, go to www.missourifarmersunion.org.
