Farmers Union Credit Union Awarded $50,000 Grant
JEFFERSON CITY
(November 14, 2005) – The Missouri Farmers
Union Credit Union (MFUCU) learned that it will have $50,000 to
assist producers and rural communities in Missouri. The award from
the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) will assist MFUCU in
expanding its role as a rural financial institution and provide
financial education to members and the public.
“We
are pleased and honored to be the recipient of this NCUF grant,
which has helped develop small credit unions and bolster
economic activity,” said Steve Burdic President of MFUCU. “The
credit union provides rural residents a way to reinvest wealth
in their community to develop viable, local economies.”
According to Burdic, the grant award will allow MFUCU to demonstrate
the important role a credit union plays by accumulating assets
to rebuild endangered rural neighborhood communities. MFUCU will
provide sources of capital for new and expanding business and organize
community around neighborhood economic issues.
The grant is made possible by the NCUF, who has become the primary
funding resource for national, state and local credit union development
Missouri Farmers Union Credit Union or MFUCU is a member-owned,
federally insured financial cooperative concerned with the well-being
of farm families and rural communities. The credit union serves
its members with locations in Jefferson City, Mountain View and
Paris.
